After being in the medical field for over 20 years taking care of people, riding an ambulance and teaching the EMT course at a local college, I arrived at the time in my life that I could retire. I have always loved horses and would share the world of horses with my sister Nonie, who always had horses. To me, having my own horse was only a dream until one day I found my precious sweet Emma. Emma is an appy pony who had been in several homes, and as people said, not suitable for children and her history is one of abuse and horrible beatings. Emma came home with me and she was head shy, spooky at the slightest movement, did not trust that she wouldnt get hit when my hand would come near her face to just love her. Having a pony like Emma was so new to me. My sister told me that she saw a sweet soul and it would take time, but I would be able to help Emma to trust again. This was the start to the most wonderful , meaningful and rewarding direction in my life. That was five years ago and now I am a licenced equine rescue for the state of Maine with 14 horses, 8 miniature horses, 4 goats, and several dogs and cats. I have found a program to help with the issues of abused horses..Parelli Natural Horsemanship. Everything takes time, and how fortunate that I have the time to spend each day working on their fears and issues. Day after day, I find meaning and purpose in what I do. I want to thank my sister Nonie, who is the true horse person with a gift of teaching and has been with me every step of the way as each horse arrived at the "Last Stop Horse Rescue". I hope all of you who see my site, will know that anything and everything is possible if you only believe in yourself and what is in your heart. I hope you enjoy seeing the pictures of some amazing horses who have come so far and have let their walls down and can now accept the love that they so deserve.
Who would have known that when we brought Molly home last March 3/30/08 that she would have surprised us and that she was carrying a foal. Never in my life did I ever think that I would experience the birth of a foal. We took a chance on getting Molly and knew that her deep rooted issues towards humans would be a challenge. And now the greatest reward that she could have given , is the gift of a lifetime..Regalo.
Regalo means "the gift"
